Helping older citizens remain independent in their own homes is the major thrust of FEGS’s Aging Services. These include:
- Golden Age Project (GAP), a volunteer driven initiative, offers assessment, case management, and volunteer services to frail, elderly, and homebound individuals.
- Neighborhood Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NNORC) Support Service Programs (SSP) include Hands on Huntington, in partnership with the Town of Huntington, and Project Independence, in partnership with the Town of North Hempstead. FEGS, in collaboration with the municipalities, North Shore/LIJ Health System, the seniors themselves and many community-based organizations and groups, offers programs that bring comprehensive counseling, case management, health, social, recreational, and volunteer services to individuals age 60 and over.
- Partners in Caring-Aging offers a network of specialized services on-site at synagogues in Queens, including information, referral, assessment, counseling, support groups, and community education for elderly congregants and community members.
- Senior Recreation & Support Program for the Deaf offers weekly meetings and special events that provide social, recreational, and educational activities for older adults who are deaf or hard of hearing.
