F·E·G·S WeCARE – the Wellness, Comprehensive Assessment, Rehabilitation and Employment Program – is a highly successful new paradigm in the delivery of welfare to work services. Funded by the New York City Human Resources Administration, WeCARE helps public assistance applicants and recipients with complex clinical barriers to employment, including medical, mental health and substance abuse conditions, to obtain employment or federal disability benefits.
Services include a comprehensive assessment by a licensed Social Worker and Board Certified physician. Clients also receive an individualized “roadmap” that includes all services needed to help them achieve their employment goals, including: placement in a Work Experience Program (an internship program), Vocational Training, Educational Training, Job Development, Job Placement, and Post Employment Services.
WeCARE also offers a Wellness Program for clients who have medical and/or mental health conditions that need to be stabilized before the individual can return to work. For clients with disabilities that will prevent them for working for twelve months or longer, the WeCARE SSI Program assists clients with the Federal Disability application and appeals process.
