NYANA Immigrant and Resettlement Services at F·E·G·S

The F·E·G·S Citizenship Program helps Russian-speaking émigrés, age 50 and over, to participate more fully and actively in American life by helping participants prepare for their oral citizenship exam, improving their English Language skills, and learning about the American voting process.

The program offers small classes (usually four to ten people), taught by volunteers who work with participants for a few months in order to:

• Prepare for the oral examination given by the Immigration and Naturalization Service that one must pass to become a U.S. citizen
• Improve speaking and writing skills in English
• Learn how to vote and operate voting machines
• Join field trips to learn more about the life and culture of New York City.
