Working with families is an integral part of the F·E·G·S service delivery system. Specialized programs include:
- Family Service Program, which assists families caring for family members with
disabilities by providing respite services and cash assistance.
- Breast Cancer Counseling, which offers crisis intervention, community education
and other supportive services for "survivors" and their families.
- Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Services, which provides community education
and support services to battered women, and specialized counseling services to children who have
been sexually abused and for batterers. Services are also available to survivors of sex
abuse who may experience anxiety and depression.
- Students Advocating Against Violence Initiative
(SAAVI),which provides violence prevention/reduction education, training and
counseling to elementary through high school students and families, teachers and administrators.
- The Family Advocacy, Information and Referral (F.A.I.R.) Services, which
provides comprehensive information and referrals for families with special needs children.
- HIV/AIDS Counseling Program, which works with individuals and their families
to address the emotional problems, conflicts, and stress associated with HIV/AIDS.
F·E·G·S also offers a Long Island-wide HIV/AIDS Prevention and Education Program for youth.
- Tikvah Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Counseling Services, which
offers effective methods of suicide prevention based on psychological principles
and Jewish values.
- Best Feet Forward, which provides pre-marriage counseling for engaged
Jewish couples.
- Eating Disorders, Prevention/education seminars, resources and referrals are provided for youth and their families across Nassau and Suffolk Counties who are at risk for, or coping with, an eating disorder. The program is funded by grants from the Hadassah Foundation and UJA-Federation of New York.
